Where did Akoe get my email?

From something you published. Akoe found your public post on Hacker News or Reddit, and if it gave a founder an email address, you or your product published that address on a page Akoe can name. It never guesses an address. Remove me from Akoe

Your post

On Hacker News: a Show HN or Ask HN post from the last 14 days, listed through the Hacker News Search API that Algolia runs (hn.algolia.com). On Reddit: a post in one of 18 subreddits (r/smallbusiness, r/Entrepreneur, r/EntrepreneurRideAlong, r/sweatystartup, r/SaaS, r/SideProject, r/indiehackers, r/startup_ideas, r/AppIdeas, r/nocode, r/vibecoding, r/lovable, r/web_design, r/Wordpress, r/squarespace, r/webflow, r/framer, r/freelance), read through redditapis.com, a paid service that reads public Reddit posts for us. Public posts only. Akoe reads them through those services, never by scraping Hacker News or Reddit, and never logs in to anyone’s account.

Why your post

A founder told Akoe the problem their product solves. Jev, a model made by TypeSafe, read your post’s text, and nothing else about you, and judged whether you wrote about that problem: asking for a fix, saying you have it, or working on it.

Your email

Only an address you or your product published, looked for in this order: your Hacker News profile’s about field (through Hacker News’s own API); the pages it links to, such as your GitHub profile (through GitHub’s API) or your own site; and the site your post links to, with up to three of its about and contact pages. Reddit profiles show no email, so for a Reddit post Akoe reads only the links in your profile’s description and the site your post links to.

An address on your product’s site that isn’t yours, such as hello@ or support@, is given as your product’s address, not yours. Every address is kept with the page it was found on. MillionVerifier checks that it can receive mail; it sends you nothing.

What the founder was given

Your username, a link to your post and its text, how many days your thread still takes replies, and, if we found one, the email address you or your product published and the page it was on. Each founder is given you once at most, and is asked to write to you once, by hand, saying where they found you.

What we keep

The post as you published it, the profile details and addresses we found with the page each came from, and which founders were given you. The profile details and addresses are deleted once 18 months pass without us looking you up again.

Why we may

Legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)): helping someone who built a product reach a person who said in public that they have the problem it solves, through a channel that person published themselves. You can object at any time, and we’ll stop.

Stop it

Remove me from Akoe takes your username or address and stops Akoe from ever giving you to anyone again. To see what we hold about you, or for anything else, write to hello@getakoe.com.
