About Akoe
Akoe is made by Edward Yen, a solo founder. He built it to find the first users for his own products without buying ads, and opened it to other founders as a free beta in October 2026.
The name
Akoe (ἀκοή) is ancient Greek for hearing, and for what is heard. Akoe listens for the people who have already said, in public, that they have the problem your product solves.
Which posts it reads
Every Show HN and Ask HN post on Hacker News from the last 14 days, listed through the Hacker News Search API that Algolia runs (hn.algolia.com): 2,216 right now. It lists every post rather than searching for keywords, so who it finds doesn’t depend on guessing the words people use. Reddit is next: 18 founder and builder subreddits, read through redditapis.com, so far for Edward’s own products only.
How a post is judged
Anthropic’s Claude reads your site once and drafts two sentences: who it’s for, and the problem it solves. You confirm the problem or rewrite it.
Then Jev, TypeSafe’s judging model, reads each post on its own, one post per request so no post can sway another, and answers four questions against your two sentences: did the author ask for a way to solve the problem, say they have it, post about work made for it, or are they simply the kind of person it’s for? A post goes to the highest level whose answer clears that level’s line. Code, not a model, decides the order, the counts and who is in a batch.
Where the lines come from
Each level’s line was calculated, not picked. Edward labelled 147 posts on two products blind, without seeing Jev’s answers, and each line sits where a post becomes more likely right than wrong. The second product moved one line and got one question reworded.
How a person is reached
A reply on their own thread while it still takes replies (14 days on Hacker News), or an email address they published themselves: in their profile, on their GitHub, on their own site, or on the site their post links to. MillionVerifier checks each address can receive mail, without sending anything. Where Akoe gets an email
What Akoe never does
- Writes, posts or sends anything for you.
- Guesses an email address from a name.
- Shows you a score for a person. You see their level and their post, and you decide.
- Gives you the same person twice.
- Publishes anyone’s post. A batch is seen only by the founder who took it.
